Escape Room
Challenge Description:​​
This challenge is inspired by "Escape Rooms", which are a fun and creative activity found in malls. Each tribe is “locked” in a room. There are three different combination locks that players need to open in order to escape the room.
The first leg of the escape room is a logic puzzle. Players must solve the logic puzzle/riddle and enter the solution into a lock. The second leg of the challenge involves a map and clues. Players must figure out the path through the map and enter the directions into the orientation lock.
The final leg is a 3D-printed puzzle. Once the puzzle is completed, it will give directions for the final code to exit the escape room. Players must wait 1 minute in between guesses. SolidWorks Model
For this puzzle, I envisioned a simple 3D jigsaw puzzle. Once the puzzle was solved, the puzzle give directions on how to find the code to the combination lock. Therefore, the puzzle solution instructs the user to "count the number of planets, pieces, and dots". There are 21 planets carved into the puzzle, 29 puzzle pieces, and 18 dots are hidden around the room. The solution of the combination lock is 21, 29, 18.

To create each piece, I used the spline tool in SolidWorks to make boundaries. I then used the Split Line feature to cut each piece apart along the boundaries produced by the spline tool. Each piece was saved as an individual body and were all 3D printed as so. This was a fast way to create the puzzle and ensure all pieces with smoothly interlock with one another.

Final Puzzle
The image below shows the final puzzle. Each puzzle was painted to match the color of the corresponding "tribe" of players. The letters were painted in black to provide contrast, making the intrusctions clear.
